This weekend is the coldest it has been in awhile. And, I have heard the birds outside. Birdsong always lets me know that spring will triumph and that warmth will return. These photographs were taken on opposite coasts. The yellow birds were holding court at the top of a tall fall tree at Longwood Gardens–a favorite place to visit in any season. And, the silhouetted bird paused for a moment in a tree near Balboa Park in San Diego. I find that photographing birds is always an exercise in contrasts–both patience and attentive speed are required to catch one of these winged creatures before they head off in to the wild blue beyond. Patience and attention that allows for timely response are worth cultivating in my life as the cold of February will eventually give way to April. I am happy to learn such from the birds.
